It is with great sadness and heavy heart that we have to announce the passing of beloved friend and Sir Knight Robert (Bob) Doud.
SK Bob Doud died Monday February 22, 2016 at his home, just a few days before he was to undergo bi-pass surgery.
Bob was a faithful and devout Catholic who served his country in the US Army, and his God with all his heart and soul. He was an very active member in our Parrish of St. Joseph's and was a Eucharistic Minister. As a Eucharistic Minister Bob helped to establish the practice of bringing Holy Communion to those living in our local Nursing Homes. One of Bob's favorite songs is "Amazing Grace" and he would start the prayer service at the Nursing Home by singing Amazing Grace. One Sunday the other ministers decided to open the prayer service by singing a different song. As the service was concluding Bob looked at us and announced that we would sing "Amazing Grace".
Bob was a Charter Member of our council, Fr. John Farrell Council # 5962, a mentor to many of us, an Honorary Life member in both the 3rd and 4th degrees of our order and he loved to spend time with his brother Knights. Many a Grand Knight is thankful for Bob's wisdom and guidance.
SK Bob loved the Knights of Columbus and believed in its mission and its founder, Fr. Michael J. McGivney. He would close every meeting with the prayer for the canonization of Fr. McGivney.
He was a three time Past Grand Knight of our council. He held other position in the Knights of Columbus, District Deputy and Nassau Conference Chairman. He was part of the degree teams for proud of the many roles he plays in the 3rd degree of our order. He was also an active member of the 4th Degree.
Bob Doud was one of those people you assumed would live forever and always be there to lend a helping hand when needed. He will be missed, but maybe God finally gave him the voice he needs to truly sing Amazing Grace. Rest in Peace Bob, you earned it.
